Graham Gagnon

Graham Gagnon is the Associate Vice President Research at Dalhousie University, where he also serves as the NSERC/Halifax Water Industrial Research Chair in Water Quality & Treatment in the Centre for Water Resources Studies.  He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo (1997) and a B.Eng. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph (1993). In 1998, Dr. Gagnon was hired as an Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering at Dalhousie University and in 2002 he was awarded a Canada Research Chair in Water Quality & Treatment. In December 2006, Dr. Gagnon became the Faculty of Engineering’s first NSERC Industrial Research Chair holder, through a partnership between NSERC and Halifax Water. In 2012 and 2017, this Research Chair was renewed with additional industrial partners, namely: Cape Breton Regional Municipality, LuminUltra Ltd., CBCL Ltd and MANTECH Inc. and AGAT Laboratories.  Graham works closely with his students and research partners to deliver timely solutions that have broad impact to the water industry. Dr. Gagnon has supervised more than 100 student researchers at Dalhousie University 50% of Dr. Gagnon’s student trainees are women. He has authored more than 150 peer reviewed journal articles, over 300 conference proceedings in his 20-year career at Dalhousie University. In 2013, Dr. Gagnon was awarded the Fuller Award from AWWA through the Atlantic Canada Section for his constructive leadership to the water industry.
