Human Resource Specialist, Nova Scotia Power
Carol’s career has had some interesting twists and turns (bus and streetcar driving instructor, telephone company wiring technician) but none that excite her more than when she works to ‘level the playing field’ for people who have been underrepresented in workplaces. Through her work with the owner of a large transmission project, she assisted construction contractors to develop and follow through on their diversity and inclusion plans, thereby increasing the participation of women and other under-represented people, and providing a welcoming culture for everyone. Carol is currently helping to deliver on the Nova Scotia Power Diversity & Inclusion strategy by enabling conversations about diversity & inclusion throughout the business.
As an adult educator, Carol has developed executive mentorship programs, leadership training, and facilitated respectful workplace and anti-bullying workshops. Carol is a past board member of Hypatia, a not-for-profit organization that designed and implemented long term strategies to improve the representation of women in science, and technology in Nova Scotia, and past chair of the Canadian Electrical Association Training Network.
